2004 AGM Report

The JCNA 2004 Annual General Meeting was held aboard the R.M.S. Queen Mary on March 13th. Your delegates representing JOASW were President Cliff Mathews and Director Dennis Cheever. The weekend kicked off with a visit to Ford's Premier Auto Group headquarters in Irvine, graciously hosted by Malcolm Oliver. We were treated to up close viewing of the old (1932 SS-100) the new (the 4.2L XK8) and the never to be (the stunning XK-180 concept car).

We spent Saturday in the Queen's Salon discussing and voting on a myriad of proposals. There will probably be a complete accounting of actions taken in the next Jaguar Journal, but here are some of the highlights. Once they are published, I encourage you to review the rule changes, especially those affecting the areas in which you compete.

The newly elected National Officers for 2004 are:
President - Bill Streitenberger
Vice President - Barbara Grayson
Secretary - Steve Averill

Significant changes to Chapters 2 and 4 of the Concours Rule Book were approved. For those of us in Driven Division, chrome plated wheels and tinted windows will now be allowed with no deductions. The XJS class will be split in a manner yet to be determined by the Concours rules committee. There will be no change in the way concours scores are calculated. In addition to Championship and Driven Divisions, the new Special Division has been created for cars with more than 35 points of non-authenticity deductions.

For slalom fans there is also a major rewrite of the rules. There are now three classes (stock, modified and street prepared), and if you have any non original items on your car, a careful review of the new rules is in order. Like the concours rules, these changes were passed by a 2/3 majority and therefore take effect immediately.

For rally fans there is good news. Clubs are no longer limited to two sanctioned rallies per year. While running in a rally, participants are now limited to "One clock or watch per car and speedometer/odometer only". A major rewrite of the rally program by our own Steve Averill was referred to the rally committee for revue and will no doubt be revisited in the future.

Among those items which failed to gain approval this year were Tulsa's proposal providing a procedure for accepting or rejecting new club applications, revisions in the way North American championship standings are calculated and a change stating that term limits for JCNA elected positions should apply to the current officer's spouse or domestic partner.

After the AGM Cliff attended the seminar on Jaguar Heritage while Dennis attended the Website Management seminar. The day wrapped up with the gala awards banquet with everyone much enjoying the keynote address given by George Ayres, Vice President of marketing for Jaguar Cars.
